Manchester Music - Never Learn To Cry Review - 03/27/06

NEVER LEARN TO CRY recommended

Last years “Three Fingers” blew our hats off. “Never Learn To Cry” is a lean arrangement, with a subtle bass line and understated drums, relying on the guitar to crash about with splinters of feedback and twisting riffs to support the sleepy female vocals of Jennifer Rogers, as she weaves a fluid, dreamy melody through the song. “The Clock” is a fused, clatter of bass and cutting guitar skirmishes, revolving around a theme of two chords, as nursery rhyme lyrics bookend big drum interludes and a crescendo that sounds like the B52’s arm wrestling the Pixies. Superb.
