The Rogers Sisters
The Invisible Deck
To say the least, the Rogers Sisters’ hard-hitting heavy rock ‘n’ roll is a breath of fresh air. They don’t sound like the poppy, synth-laden girl-fronted indie bands we’re used to hearing, and they don’t sound anything like the Donnas—thank God. In the same vein as Seattle’s soon-to-be-defunct Sleater-Kinney, the Rogers Sisters (who are actually two sisters and a guy named Miyuki) ditch the girly theatrics and simply rock hard. The Invisible Deck combines simple rhythms, Pixies influence and sizzling New York dance punk with the sweet vocals of guitarist Jennifer, resulting in an ominously dark, yet incredibly energetic sound. The Rogers Sisters are comparable in sound to legendary punk bands the Clash and Gang of Four, evident on Miyuki-fronted and Mooney Suzuki-sounding “The Light,” probably the best song on the album.
